Dr. North Callahan (1908-2004) was born in Sweetwater, TN, on August 7, 1908. He graduated from the University of Chattanooga in 1930 with honors, received his master's degree from Columbia University, and is Ph.D. from New York University. He taught History at NYU for close to 20 years and authored 17 books on American history and biography. After his career in education, Callahan worked as a writer for newspapers in Tennessee, New York, and Texas. He later joined the Army, where he rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel, and was editor of the national magazine, Army Life.
