The Plays of William Shakespeare prints collection contains 36 engravings of scenes from Shakespearean plays printed on silk, originally published in Sir Thomas Hamner's The Works of Shakespeare in 1744.
Sir Thomas Hamner, editor of The Works of Shakespeare, in which the engravings were originally published, was born in 1677 and served as a members of the British parliament from 1701 to 1927. After his retirement, he edited his six volume work, illustrated with engravings by Hubert Francois Gravelot.
